Make-at-home peanut butter dog treats
If your dog doesn’t have a peanut allergy, make-at-home peanut butter dog treats are a great idea. For the same reason that I’d rather make cookies for my kids than buy ones that are filled with sodium and trans fat.
Plus, I always end up pigging out on the “people cookies” I make, so I thought making peanut butter dog treats might help to solve that problem.
I found this recipe, which the kids and I had a blast with, and the dogs scarfed down.
1 ¼ C milk
1 ¼ C peanut butter
2 C whole wheat flour
1 C all-purpose flour
1 ¼ T baking powder
Mix the milk and peanut butter ‘til smooth. Then add the dry ingredients, all at once. Knead it until the dough is smooth (add a little milk if necessary). Roll out on a floured surface and cut out shapes. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
I noticed that different shapes (I got bone-shaped cookie cutters at the pet store) require more or less bake time, and the longer the cookies dry, the crunchier they get.
My dogs love these tasty peanut butter treats. I tasted one – they weren’t too bad (kinda like Aunt Betty’s “famous” peanut butter cookies). Sorry, Betty.
